As a build-up to Clerkenwell Design Week 2018, office furniture design and manufacturing company Actiu has launched a design competition in support of Maggie’s – 21 cancer support centres across the UK offering free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families.
Reinvent a design icon
The competition invites designers and creatives to reinvent Actiu’s iconic Badminton chair, to push the boundaries of its design and material capabilitites. Entrants are encouraged to come up with an alternative use of the chair and its sculptural design, but proposals maintaining the chair’s original function are also welcomed.
Fabrics from Gabriel
For the competition, Gabriel provides entrants with upholstery fabrics free of charge. The entrants have absolute freedom of choice and can choose between the complete collection of exclusive Gabriel upholstery fabrics in an impressive range of colours, textures and qualitites.
Proceeds go to cancer support
Winners will be announced at the beginning of CDW18 on Tuesday 22nd May. The redesigned Badminton chairs will be sold in an online auction during CDW. All proceeds from the auction go to Maggie’s cancer support centres.
