Our story begins in 1851 in Denmark with a watermill by the small stream Østeraa on the outskirts of the town of Aalborg. The watermill powered a small textile factory, where fine wool fibres were crafted into woollen clothing and later furniture fabrics.
Even though the company started out small, the ambitions were already big. Innovation, entrepreneurship, and a will to succeed drove the company forward, and across the decades the small textile mill grew into the Gabriel we know today. Along the way, Gabriel survived a devastating fire, two world wars and a shortage of raw materials, but the challenges only made the company stronger and created the dedication and growth mindset that allow us to celebrate more than 170 years.
