At Gabriel, we draw strength from our past and Nordic legacy, as we design, develop, and manufacture fabrics for the future.

It all started in 1851 with a water mill in Denmark called Kjærs Mølle - and three determined men with a business plan. They wanted to establish a sustainable production of clothing fabrics - and their plan turned out to be viable. In the following years, the demand for woolen goods was high, sales grew steadily, and Kjærs Mølle became a successful business.

Spanning the globe

More than a 160 years later, Gabriel has successfully grown into a thriving, international organization with a global reach. The company is the preferred supplier of exclusive upholstery fabrics, components, and related products and services to the contract and transport markets as well as for the private furniture market. Customers come from all over the world, and the export share has grown from 15% in 1984 to over 92% today.

Fabrics for the future

To meet the demands of the future, Gabriel continuously strive to reinvent upholstery fabrics in close cooperation with our customers. We look for new ways to combine fabrics and technology, and to push the limits for what fabrics can do.

”To us, design is not just about appearance. It is just as much about functionality, quality, and aesthetics”, explains Creative Director Inger Mosholt Nielsen. ”Combining functional value with emotional utility value is truly at the heart of the Gabriel design philosophy.”

Second to none – and that’s a fact

When it comes to consumer safety and sustainable fabric solutions, Gabriel is second to none and offers the largest selection of eco-labelled upholstery fabrics on the market. 95% of Gabriel’s fabrics are Oeko-Tex certified, 56% carry the EU Ecolabel, and 12% are Cradle to Cradle Certified.
